EDR was honored by the Community Design Center of Rochester (CDCR) last night for our work with the Beechwood Neighbors Greenhouse Collaborative project. This initiative has been such a rewarding experience for our Rochester landscape architects! EDR’s Andy Britton, Christy Conley, and Dave Prizzi have worked alongside an enthusiastic team of residents from the Beechwood neighborhood, led by Dr. Joyce Duckles of the University of Rochester, to create an oasis for healthy food within this “food swamp” – a place where unhealthy foods (high calorie, high sodium, high sugar) are more readily available than healthy options. The design for this site (located next to the Freedom Market on Webster Avenue) maximizes available space for seasonal and year-round production of organic fruits and vegetables, as well as space for training sessions and events, food prep operations, cold storage, equipment storage, bathrooms, and an outdoor market space. Our designs will be on display at the CDCR Design Gallery until the end of the year – go see them!
We have been passionate about this project from the beginning, and our partners in the Beechwood neighborhood have treated us like extended family as we brought their vision closer to reality. The pride of the Beechwood residents in showing off their project last night was immensely rewarding. Many thanks to the CDCR for hosting such a wonderful event.
