The U.S. Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) has issued their approval of the Construction and Operations Plan (COP) for the Atlantic Shores South (Projects 1 and 2). BOEM is a U.S. Department of the Interior agency that manages the development of offshore energy and mineral resources. Since 2019, EDR has supported Atlantic Shores with routing, COP preparation, technical studies, federal and state permitting, stakeholder outreach, and agency coordination for the Atlantic Shores portfolio of Projects.
A COP is a detailed document outlining the development, construction, and operation of an offshore wind project, which is reviewed and approved by BOEM. It covers project design, construction methods, environmental impacts, and operational safety, ensuring compliance with environmental and community standards. The COP prepared by EDR for the Atlantic Shores South Project includes over 60 supporting technical reports and appendices. The Atlantic Shores South COP is available on BOEM’s website: Atlantic Shores Offshore Wind Construction and Operations Plan for Commercial Lease OCS (OCS-A 0499).
“EDR is thrilled to have reached this important milestone as the lead for the COP and environmental permitting for the Atlantic Shores South Projects,” stated Pat Heaton, EDR Principal. “Congratulations to the entire Atlantic Shores team, and thank you to all of our trusted subconsultants who partnered with EDR throughout the processs.”
The Atlantic Shores Projects will help the U.S. and the State of New Jersey achieve their renewable energy goals, diversify New Jersey’s power supply, and increase electric reliability. In addition to environmental and health benefits, the Projects will have a positive economic impact on nearby communities and will provide substantial new employment opportunities.
