Friends of the Pruyn House
Town of Colonie, Albany County, New York
The historic Casparus F. Pruyn House in Colonie, New York, was built circa 1830 and currently serves as the cultural center for the Town of Colonie. The Friends of the Pruyn House help the Town of Colonie to maintain the historic mansion and property for use as a community center, garden, and event space.
As part of a long-term maintenance and restoration planning effort, in 2016 the Friends of the Pruyn House retained EDR to prepare an Existing Conditions Assessment Report. Our report identified masonry and water infiltration issues which, if left untreated, would result in accelerated deterioration and physical damage to the building. The primary focus of our analysis was water damage, including documentation of recent and ongoing damage to the building envelope, site, and interior. Our recommendations provided the basis for project architects to create sensitive solutions that retained and respected the historic integrity of the building. Renovations were initiated in 2019. In addition, EDR prepared a conceptual lighting plan for the site, which frequently hosts outdoor events.
EDR is proud of our role to support the Friends of Pruyn House and the Town of Colonie in their stewardship of this community treasure.
