Mohawk Valley Edge
Town of Marcy, NY
EDR worked closely with Mohawk Valley EDGE (MV EDGE) and Oneida County, along with the Architect-of-Record, to support the community’s desire to define a vision, and to create a master plan that represents this proposed Marcy-SUNY Parkway “Tech Barn” Development.
In September 2021, MV EDGE issued a request for expression of interest to identify qualified development to purchase MV Edge-owned land and proceed with development based on the vision for this vibrant mixed-use community along both sides of the Marcy-SUNY Parkway in the Town of Marcy, adjacent to SUNY Polytechnic Institute (SUNY Poly) campus and the Marcy Nanocenter (MNC) (a 434-acre manufacturing development site for semiconductor and advanced electronics). Cree/Wolfspeed chose to invest $1.2B to construct the world’s largest 200mm silicon-carbide semiconductor fab on a portion of this site. They plan to commence operations in 2022 (expected to create more than 600 jobs over the next 8 years). Danfoss-Silicon Power focused on producing power modules for the next generation of industry, is already located on the SUNY Poly campus (and is expected to employ up to 300 people in the next few years).
This development corridor has been planned to become a dynamic gateway for SUNY Poly and the MNC. The vision for redevelopment also includes both mixed-use and residential development opportunities, featuring distinctive modern agrarian architecture, contemporary amenities, pedestrian connectivity, and a range of commercial and residential programming. Complete with utilities and infrastructure, the proposed development sites along the Parkway corridor support a wide range of programming and land-use options.
