Mid-City Renaissance Area-Wide Study

City of Pittsburg, KS

Before merging with EDR, Elan collaborated with the City of Pittsburg to identify underutilized and vacant properties that may be contaminated within the Mid-City Renaissance study area.

This project aimed to create an EPA-sponsored Area-Wide Plan. The plan identifies district-wide redevelopment strategies to return blighted properties to productive use while restoring environmental integrity.

Early findings, derived from extensive public outreach, market analysis, and site assessments, indicate significant potential for enhancing recreational amenities, developing new housing, and establishing a solar farm. Additionally, the project presents new economic opportunities, including research and academic spaces to complement nearby Pittsburg State University.

Ultimately, the goal of this plan is to develop a common redevelopment and investment strategy. This strategy will involve the city, the county, Pittsburg State University, and various private sector investors. Together, they will create a foundation for successful public and private ventures in the area.
