Cazenovia, New York
Working on the site design for Owera Vineyards, Madison County’s first farm winery, has been an exceptionally rewarding project for EDR’s landscape architects and engineers. Located on a picturesque rural setting near Cazenovia Lake, the site features a long curvilinear drive bridging two farm ponds, rows of grapevines, a produce garden, and ornamental gardens associated with the tasting room, patios, and reception areas. The warm character of the interior design is carried over to the exterior with native tree and shrub plantings, and the use of meadow and wildflower masses link the farm winery to the adjacent agricultural land and woodlands. From the stormwater bioretention areas to the vines themselves, the property is well groomed and impeccably cared for – some of Owera’s wine labels even bear the image of the impressive trees that were preserved as part of EDR’s design. The site planning process, which began in 2013, included compliance with the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation Stormwater General Permit and Town of Cazenovia engineering review.
