EDR is working with Rockland County Solid Waste Management Authority (Rockland Green) to achieve its vision of building a better environment through increased opportunities for recycling food waste, wastewater sludge, and yard waste into reusable products. The project goal is to avoid traditional landfill disposal options by replacing them with other sustainable management systems.
The award-winning organics management system includes a Biosolids Co-composting Facility to process regional wastewater sludge with some food waste, as well as three (3) yard waste composting facilities. EDR is also assisting the Authority with the potential expansion of a regional food waste recycling program and associated processing facilities in response to the promulgation of new regulations.
EDR services have included efforts associated with improved odor control systems at the Biosolids Co-composting Facility, better management practices for surface water runoff controls at the yard waste facilities, and greater operational sensitivities to facilities located in residential and commercial areas – all intending to preserve and enhance the surrounding community.
EDR’s integrated project team included civil and site engineers, structural engineers, landscape architects, stormwater specialists, wastewater process specialists, cost estimators, and construction managers.
