Town of Irondequoit
Irondequoit, NY
EDR was retained by the Town of Irondequoit to create a Master Plan that would establish a vision to transform the 16-acre Town Hall property into a vibrant campus. The Town Hall consists of 7-acres of vacant space that once housed the Department of Public Works. Following a devastating fire and total loss of the DPW facilities, the community was left with a vacant site. Irondequoit leaders concurred that the site should be an accessible and inclusive community space. Through a robust public engagement process lead by a 12-member Advisory Committee, the team received critical feedback from the community on their thoughts on the future of the site.
Through an iterative design process, that was refined through each stage of community engagement, the final plan reflects a “park-like” setting with amenities for all users. Central to the plan is a new permanent farmers’ market and event space anchored around a main lawn, interconnected walking paths, and a well- defined circulation pattern. Utilizing a universal design approach, the campus presents a tremendous opportunity to re-establish the Town Hall property as a cohesive, integrated recreation space that offers a dynamic and inclusive user experience.
“This project was the Town’s one shot to turn this site into a true community-centered campus. With their refreshing and much appreciated approach, EDR embraced the community and listened to what the community wanted.” Robert Kiley, Commissioner
