Presentation Abstract:
It’s a Brave New World: A Consultant’s Perspective on Online Consultation with the NY SHPO
The New York State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO) recently launched their new online platform for regulatory compliance project review, the New York State Cultural Resources Information System (or, CRIS). Successful consultation with the SHPO has always been dependent on the quality of the information that a developer or consultant provides to SHPO staff. CRIS provides opportunities to improve the quality of initial project review submissions to SHPO, which can result in better communication and better outcomes for project sponsors. Examples of successful communication with SHPO staff will be reviewed to illustrate how the quality and presentation of project description materials can positively affect the SHPO consultation process.
